Hana specializes in securities litigation and financial regulation in the US, as they relate to climate risk, the energy sector, and the role of financial institutions. She also supports ClientEarth’s expanding climate and energy work in Asia, with a particular focus on the financial sector in Japan.
Hana joined ClientEarth in March 2023 and is currently based in Washington DC. Hana is a member of the ClientEarth USA team.
Before joining ClientEarth, Hana was a Senior Attorney on Climate Financial Strategies at the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), where she led the work on pension funds and regulation of climate-related financial risk. Prior to CIEL, she was a Senior Campaigner at Rainforest Action Network (RAN), focused on banking sector accountability for social and environmental impacts; and Senior Policy Advisor at Global Witness, working to stop the global trade in illegal timber. Hana has also served as policy aide to members of the Japanese Parliament on policies related to international environmental issues, human rights, and the International Criminal Court.
Hana was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, and is fluent in English and Japanese.
Hana graduated from Princeton University with a degree in political science and East Asian studies. Hana completed a research certificate at the Tokyo University Graduate School for Law and Politics and received her Juris Doctor from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, specializing in environmental and human rights law. She is currently pursuing an LLM at Georgetown Law Center on Securities and Financial Regulation.
Hana is a member of the state bars of New York and Washington DC.
Hana concurrently serves as a Professorial Lecturer in Law at the George Washington University School of Law; Board Member of Rainforest Action Network; and Advisory Board Member of the Sustainable Business Law Hub at Haub Law.
