Alexander Reid is a Washington, DC, lawyer specializing in taxation and the governance of non-profit organizations. He has served several times in government, including the U.S. Treasury Office of Tax Policy and the U.S. Congress Joint Committee on Taxation, and has experience as a drafter and influencer of legislation.
A native of Sonoma County, California, Alex grew up in the area that is now ravaged by wildfires and has a deep, personal connection to the adverse impact of climate change. He is a graduate of Yale University, where he studied philosophy, fenced, and sang opera and jazz. On the advice of moral philosopher, Thomas Nagel, Alex studied tax law at New York University as tax is the means by which the burdens of government are distributed, fairly or unfairly. Alex was editor in chief of the Law Review and earned an LL.M. in taxation on full scholarship before commencing private practice.
He is currently national head of the non-profit organizations practice group at BakerHostetler and serves in leadership of several professional societies as well. He continues to sing, performing occasionally with a band and classical choirs in Washington.
